It's a good thing I made that half batch of "practice" frosting for the purple cake.
I played with the piping tips and the food coloring and managed to make a few acceptable pink rose-like flowers and some leaves, which I piped onto little squares of parchment and froze. My intention was to make some better ones with the "real" frosting, but the real batch was a little too loose to make flower petals that would stand up. I ended up using the practice flowers.
I thought it turned out not too badly for a first try.
When I texted a picture to The Husband, he said, "I thought you were going to put purple sprinkles on it."
O.M.G. I had completely forgotten about the purple sprinkles. I'd planned to dust the whole top of the cake with purple sanding sugar before I put the flowers on.
There was no room left for purple sprinkles. I took off some of the little roses, stenciled a purple sugar butterfly in their place, and dusted the rim with purple sugar.
